Faulty telephone socket in Alrewas

Trent & Mersey Canal

We were called out by a lovely lady who lives virtually alongside the Trent & Mersey canal near Alrewas. Although her master phone socket was working okay the extension socket in her lounge where she had her phone and broadband router plugged in to had stopped working.

Unfortunately it wasn’t possible to fully inspect all of the route that the cable took as the cable had been embedded behind the plasterboard when the building was renovated ten years ago. We were able to inspect part of the cable going across the loft but not all of it. The lady informed us that she did have a problem with squirrels and similar creatures encroaching into her loft space. We therefore came to the conclusion that one of them had decided to gnaw through the cable.

As it was not practical to replace the cable internally we decided to run a new length of brown CW1412 external grade cable along the back of the building from the bedroom to the lounge. We were very fortunate to be working outside in such an idyllic location during an unseasonably period of weather for a February when the temperature reached 18 degrees!
